What shapes our understanding of food, language and identity today and in the future?
In this interdisciplinary workshop designed for youths aged 15 and above, participants will embark on a guided learning journey to a local hawker centre, where the rich flavours of food, language and community come alive. They will conduct short interviews with hawker stall owners to uncover their stories, inspirations, and hopes for the future.
Through urban sketching, creative writing and translation, participants will explore how words and images work together to capture the textures of daily life. Rather than viewing translation as a simple act of moving from one language to another, they will be encouraged to immerse themselves in the interlingual environment, weaving multiple languages, dialects and sensory details into their writing and sketches.
This programme is commissioned by SWF and curated by Singapore Book Council.
