From the 19th to the 20th century, secret societies held a mysterious presence in the back alleys of Singapore. These groups were both the “protectors” of the immigrant underclass and a shadow cast over the colonial era. In this guided walk, local historian and heritage researcher Lee Kok Leong will take you through historic districts such as Chinatown and Boat Quay. Through surviving architectural symbols and hidden gang codes, he will uncover the power struggles, codes of brotherhood, and the lasting impact these secret societies had on Singapore’s social structure and cultural fabric.
