This grand celebration brings together the vibrant cultures of Bihar and Jharkhand, embracing the timeless Indian ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – the world is one family.
We are honored to welcome Padma Shri Malini Awasthi ji, a renowned folk artist and torchbearer of the Banaras Gharana, as our special guest. Her presence will enhance our theme this year – "Purab ke Rang" – showcasing the rich folk traditions of Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh through music, dance, and visual art.
This is more than an event – it is a cultural confluence aimed at connecting generations, preserving heritage, and strengthening our shared identity.
Malini Ji Profile:
We are honored to share that Padma Shri Malini Awasthi ji, an acclaimed exponent of the Banaras Gharana and a celebrated Hindustani classical and folk singer, will be visiting Singapore for a cultural event organized by BiJhar Society on 23rd August 2025.
Malini Awasthi ji’s classical journey is distinguished by her rigorous training under the legendary Padma Vibhushan Vidushi Girija Devi, from whom she mastered the Purab Ang Gayaki style of the Banaras Gharana. A gold medalist in Hindustani classical music from Bhatkhande University, Lucknow, she is renowned for her mastery over classical forms such as Dadra, Thumri, Kajri, and Chaiti, alongside her deep knowledge of folk traditions in multiple dialects including Awadhi, Bhojpuri, Bundeli, and Braj. Awarded the Padma Shri in 2016 for her contributions to Indian music, she is also a top-grade artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan, and a visiting professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University’s Centre for Media Studies. Her performances are celebrated for their emotive depth and technical brilliance, making her a true cultural ambassador of Indian classical and folk music.
