Cathartic Mapping with Brandon Alley
13 June, 7pm–8:30pm
Level: Open
This improvisation-based class opens with brain-body coordination and breathwork to calm the nervous system and release tension. We’ll then explore natural impulses through imagery, yielding, pushing, and opposition, expanding movement and breath. Isolated patterns, distorted facial expressions, and group locomotion will guide us through texture, memory, and presence, culminating in an emotional release through contradiction and oversaturation. We’ll end in a collective moment of relaxation, inviting a centered spirit.
About the Artist:
North Carolina-born Brandon Lee Alley is a multidisciplinary artist based on Coast Salish territories in Vancouver. His dance career includes Hubbard Street 2, one year with BODYTRAFFIC in LA, and five seasons with Ballet BC (2015-2020). He continued performing and collaborating with Vancouver-based Company 605, Idan Cohen, and Rachel Meyer before joining Kidd Pivot for Revisor's final global tour in 2022. In 2019, he co-founded Dance//Novella, a contemporary dance company in Vancouver. Brandon is also an Audio Engineer who creates original dance scores.

Catching Ephemerality with Anthea Seah

This class combines structured improvisation, trying on specific movement qualities and short phrases that allow participants to experience liminal moving and expression.
About the Artist:
A former full-time dance artist with T.H.E Dance Company (2015-2021), Anthea Seah has performed internationally with renowned choreographers including Kim Jae Duk, Dimo Kirilov, and Iratxe Ansa. As assistant to artistic director Kuik Swee Boon, she contributed to developing T.H.E's HollowBody™ methodology and facilitated workshops. Her practice spans choreography, movement design for film, and performance direction. She has taught extensively, from professional companies to university dance programs, and previously curated for cont·act Contemporary Dance Festival. Anthea is currently based in New York.

Kinetic Listening with Rebecca Margolick

This session focuses on mind-body connection and versatility, drawing from improvisation, visualization, tai chi, somatics, and modern dance techniques. Participants will work on coordination, efficiency, and groundedness through physical tasks that explore dynamics, endurance, and technique. About the Artist:
Rebecca Margolick is a choreographer and dancer whose works have been presented in over ten countries. Named one of Dance Magazine's "Top 25 to Watch" in 2021, she has received fellowships and residencies from institutions like Ailey’s New Directions Choreography Lab and Banff Centre. Margolick has created works for companies such as Oregon Ballet Theatre, Ballet B.C., and Arts Umbrella, and has danced with Sidra Bell Dance New York. With ten years as a freelance dancer, she currently works with Josh Martin and Andrea Peña.

Trained in contemporary, ballet, and Chinese dance, Zu you was a dance artist with T.H.E Dance Company from 2017 to 2022, where he honed his craft through the company’s distinctive HollowBody™ methodology. With a deep fascination for movement vocabularies that seamlessly blend strength, functionality, fluidity, and grace, Zu you is committed to exploring the interplay between physicality and artistry. In his classes, he strives to cultivate a mindful approach to movement, emphasizing intentionality and awareness, ensuring that each motion is both purposeful and impactful. Sammantha is a multidisciplinary artist, performer, and certified yoga instructor whose work is deeply rooted in curiosity and personal experiences. She explores the evolving roles of the body through diverse artistic practices, treating her art as a living, dynamic entity. A graduate of LASALLE College of the Arts with a Diploma in Dance (2014) and a BA First Class Honors in Dance (2016), Sammantha spent seven years (2016–2023) as a full-time artist with Frontier Danceland. During this time, she collaborated with renowned local and international choreographers, including Low Mei Yoke, Chiew Pei Shan, Gabrielle Nankivell, and Thomas Lebrun, among others, enriching her practice with a global perspective.

Efficient Release and Control with Hong Guofeng

Guofeng Hong is an independent artist and the Artistic Director of Sigma Contemporary Dance. He has contributed to the extensive body of work for Sigma Contemporary Dance since its inception, establishing Sigma's distinct identity in the Singapore dance scene. His novel approach to choreography has driven him to create innovative pieces that extend beyond conventional stages. As a passionate dance educator, he believes in dance as a means to connect deeper with ourselves and the wider community.

Krisha is a versatile dance artist known for her unique style and quality. With a decade of professional experience as an instructor, choreographer, performer, and judge, she has earned numerous championships both individually and with her crew, "The Débutante." Her achievements include directing Absolute 3 and winning the NTU HOCC Dance Competition (2021-2022) and the 2024 Lion City Dance Convention Showcase Competition. Passionate about mentorship, Krisha teaches weekly open classes at O school and founded "The Space I Hold," a platform for sharing creative practices and building community. For Krisha, dance remains a medium for discovery, expression, and connection.

About the Artist:
Jieying Nah (Tinydancerjane) is a Singapore-born movement choreographer, dancer, producer, and workshop facilitator. She is the founder of Tinydancer Productions, a company dedicated to creating interdisciplinary movement works for diverse stages. Trained in Chinese dance and artistic gymnastics from a young age, Jieying honed her skills at the School of the Arts Singapore (SOTA) and later graduated with a BA (Hons) in Contemporary Dance from London Contemporary Dance School, supported by the National Arts Council Arts Scholarship. Her exceptional talent earned her the prestigious Peggy Hawkins Scholarship. As a freelance dancer in London, she performed with renowned companies like Sisters Grimm and James Cousins Company, gracing stages such as Sadler’s Wells Theatre. Returning to Singapore in 2019, she joined T.H.E Dance Company, collaborating with acclaimed choreographers like Kuik Swee Boon and Kim Jae Duk. Jieying’s choreographic style blends physicality, whimsy, and relatability, reflecting her belief in the transformative power of movement. Today, she continues to inspire as a freelance choreographer, creating works that resonate with audiences and dancers of all ages and backgrounds.

Articulate Bodies with Carmelita Buay

About the Artist:
Born in Singapore and raised in Sydney, Carmelita trained in classical and contemporary dance from a young age. She honed her skills at Sydney Dance Company’s Pre-professional Course and performed works by renowned artists like Rafael Bonachela, Gabrielle Nankivell, and Sam Coren. Carmelita has graced stages with Stephanie Lake Company’s Colossus and The Australian Ballet’s productions of The Nutcracker and The Story of Clara. With four years of teaching and choreographing at North Shore Dance Academy, she brings a wealth of experience in contemporary, classical, and commercial styles. Carmelita joined T.H.E Dance Company in January 2024.

Participants will embark on a holistic exploration of their different dimensions—Spirit, Emotion, Mind, and Body—through dynamic movement practice. The class promises a profound journey of self-discovery, blending reflective, meditative moments with invigorating body movements. Expect to gain deeper insights into yourself and unlock new potential through this enriching movement experience.
About the Artist:
Zhuo Zihao, recipient of the Young Artist Award (Dance) 2012, is a veteran dance artist with over 24 years of experience. A graduate of LaSalle-SIA College for the Arts and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, he was a founding member of The Human Expression (T.H.E) Dance Company (2008-2016) and continues as an Associate Artist. His notable works include the acclaimed site-specific piece "Being" and "Felt. Sense" (2013), which innovatively combined 3D projections with live performance. Recently, Zihao starred in "Half," a dance film commissioned by the Esplanade for Huayi Festival 2022, while pursuing projects that blend digital media, social work, and dance research.
