概要
BINDU: A RITE OF PASSAGE
In Bindu, the ritual subject transits the liminal phase through three stages; detachment, intervention and consummation. This experience is the human mind, body and soul attempting to elevate its state in rebirth. The Sri Yantra's regenerative potential, which serves as a link between the material and transcendental realms by the dissolution of the human ego, is used to examine this occurrence. The term liminality refers to the experience of being in a transitional phase between two states, where a person is neither in one state nor the other but is in the midst of transformation. It encompasses the journey of change, and ultimately, can be viewed as a genuine rite of passage. Victor Turner suggests this as an opportunity for individuals to challenge and redefine values and behaviors. This production reimagines Turner’s rites of passage through the intricate geometry of the Sri Yantra, unfolding rituals in four transformative phases. Rooted in Bharathanatyam, the work draws inspiration from ancient Tamil lived traditions, forging innovative pathways in somatic exploration. Embodying this as a process, has allowed us to view our humaness as a tool for self inquiry.
